We've spoken to over a thousand entrepreneurs about their businesses and if there's one consistency about how they number their products, it's that there is absolutely no consistency with how they number their products. Here are some examples of custom IDs (aka SKU, UPC) we've seen:
Because coming up with a numbering system for your products can be a challenge, we've taken it upon ourselves to give our customers the flexibility to do one of two things:
1. Use the custom ID Stitch creates for you.
2. Insert any number of custom IDs you wish for your products.
If you are a new business owner or one that's tired of coming up with a numbering system unique to your products, you can sit back and relax as you enter your products into Stitch, which is extremely easy by the way. After you've added a product line to Stitch, you'll see that the program has automatically generated a four digit number for both the line itself and every product within the line. Stitch has a smart search function in several areas of the application and that number is completely searchable so you can find the product or add the product to an order very quickly by keying in the number or the name.
If you're a business owner that wants to have your own unique numbering system for your products, that's fine too! Stitch provides you the flexibility to add any custom ID you like. You can also customize the name and add as many as you want. These numbers are also completely searchable and will show up on line sheets if you wish.
Once you've decided how you want to identify your products (either Stitch generated or your own numbering system) you'll see that all these numbers appear on any order, invoice, or packing slip you create. You have the ability to adjust your settings and remove any of the custom IDs you no longer want to see. To do that, click on the Admin link at the top right of your account and select the Orders, Invoices, & Packing Slips option.
You'll see the area titled "Product IDs" where you can de-select any of the IDs you no longer want to appear on orders, invoices or packing slips. The numbers are all still searchable, they're just no longer visible when your creating orders. Click save all changes at the bottom and you're all set.
Custom IDs that a company generates may take some time to input into Stitch. The good news is once you've put them in once, you're done!
That's it for this week. If you have any questions, please let us know. We're always happy to help.
