Tip #2 - Hindsight is 20/20
Here's my second tip to get it together for the holiday crunch. Did you read tip #1?
Once I am comfortable and up-to-speed with the current tools I'm using to run my business, I take a look at my sales history. I find this is really helpful in gauging how the coming year is going to go - what to prepare for, what to expect, and to be sure I'm ready!
I always start with the previous year, to get a sense of what my top sellers were and across what sales channels. While it is helpful to know what your best seller was on Etsy between September and January, and what sold well at the Renegade Craft Fair last year, there are other factors to take into account. I always compare these numbers with what my best seller was for that year in total, as well as what my all time best seller has been.
I find it informative to take a macro and micro approach. The Stitch Labs reports make all of this number crunching really really easy and visual, with charts, which is always a great help! Having even a basic idea of what kind of boost in sales I can expect around the holidays will help me know how much of my budget I can put towards holiday show applications, PR pushes, advertising, and special packaging.
So as we launch into this crazy holiday season, be sure to take a look back when planning ahead. Look for more tips next week!
